Alan Charles Raul is a Lecturer at Harvard Law School and Principal of Raul Consulting Company. He serves as Board Chair and President of the Future of Privacy Forum and Board Secretary of the Society for the Rule of Law. Formerly, he founded and led Sidley Austin LLP’s global Privacy and Cybersecurity practice. He also has a history of public service in roles such as Vice Chairman of the Privacy and Civil Liberties Oversight Board and General Counsel of the Office of Management and Budget.

Alan Raul’s research and practice focus on Administrative Law, Constitutional Law, Cyber Law and Policy, Internet Law, National Security Law, Privacy Law, and Technology Law and Policy. His work bridges legal frameworks with emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and data governance.
Alan has been recognized by Chambers as a leading privacy and cybersecurity practitioner and named a BTI Super All-Star for client service. He is highlighted in Who’s Who Legal as a top Internet and E-Commerce lawyer and in Ethisphere Institute’s “Attorneys Who Matter” list. He has been named a “Cyber Security Trailblazer” by the National Law Journal and recognized by Washingtonian as one of Washington, D.C.’s Best Lawyers in Cybersecurity and First Amendment Law.
