Dr. Al Fuertes is an Assistant Professor at New Century College, George Mason University (GMU), specializing in community-based trauma healing as a core element of peacebuilding. He engages with communities impacted by war, armed conflict, and natural disasters, collaborating with leaders across government, religious, military, and NGO sectors, as well as educators, youth, refugees, and internally displaced persons.
- Ph.D. in Conflict Analysis and Resolution from George Mason University
His research focuses on resiliency in post-conflict settings, spirituality's role in conflict transformation, and trauma-informed approaches to reconciliation. He authored the book Community-Based Warviews, Resiliency and Healing: The Case of the Internally Displaced Persons in Mindanao and the Karen Refugees on the Thai-Burmese Border, which synthesizes his fieldwork in complex humanitarian contexts.
