Akil Kumarasamy is an Assistant Professor in the Rutgers-Newark MFA program, specializing in creative writing and literary fiction. Her work explores contemporary themes through narrative forms, with publications in Harper’s, American Short Fiction, and BOMB.
Her debut story collection Half Gods (FSG, 2022) was a New York Times Editors’ Choice and finalist for the PEN/Robert Bingham Prize. Her novel Meet Us by the Roaring Sea (FSG, 2022) further solidifies her reputation in literary fiction. Kumarasamy has received prestigious fellowships from institutions including Yaddo, the Schomburg Center, and the Provincetown Fine Arts Work Center.
