Aimee Vlachos

Dr. Aimee Vlachos serves as a Teaching Professor and Program Director for both the Outdoor Business and Innovation major and Business Administration and Economics programs at the University of New England's College of Business on the Biddeford Campus, located in Decary Hall 309a.

Her educational background includes an Ed.D. in Sports Management (dissertation focused on gender inequality in women's surfing), an M.S. in Recreation Management, and a B.A. in Business with a minor in Outdoor Recreation. She has developed innovative curricula including founding the Outdoor Business & Innovation academic major that integrates experiential learning with real-world applications.

Dr. Vlachos's research examines gender inequality in alternative sports through cultural dynamics and participation barriers, establishing her as a thought leader in women's sports representation. Her work bridges academic theory with practical community engagement through entrepreneurial initiatives.

She received the Emerging Scholar Award from the International Conference on Sport & Society and has been nominated for the Debra J. Summers Memorial Award and Excellence in Faculty Mentoring and Advising Award.

As an entrepreneur, she founded Wahine Kai International (a 501c7 nonprofit with 15 national chapters and 500+ members) and Maine's first all-girl surf school. She actively contributes to the North American Society for Sport Management (NASSM) and Association of Outdoor Recreation Educators (AORE), while serving on local community boards promoting youth sports and outdoor recreation.
