Maxine Gregory is a Principal Research Fellow at Sheffield Hallam University's School of Sport and Physical Activity within the College of Health, Wellbeing and Life Sciences. With over 20 years of experience, she specializes in physical activity promotion, active travel, outdoor recreation, and addressing health inequalities. She holds a BSc in Recreation Management and an MA in Research Methods from her alma mater.
Her research focuses on cross-disciplinary collaboration to maximize societal impact, including co-leading the 'Healthy and Active 100' (HA100) research theme addressing health equity across lifespans. She established the Outdoor Recreation Research Group (ORRG) and co-leads the Active Travel Research Group (ATRG). Currently, she serves as Vice-Chair of the European Network of Outdoor Sport (ENOS), advocating for inclusive outdoor opportunities.
Key projects include evaluating Active Travel England's initiatives, assessing Sheffield's Outdoor Economy, and leading the EU-funded BOSS project to measure social value in outdoor sports. Her work emphasizes evidence-based policy and systemic change to enhance community well-being.
