Aidan Seeley is a Senior Lecturer in Biomedical Sciences at Swansea University Medical School, part of the Faculty of Medicine, Health and Life Sciences. He holds a BSc in Biomedical Sciences (Pharmacology) from the University of Aberdeen and a PhD from Queen's University Belfast. His current role includes serving as Course Director for Medical Pharmacology degrees and leading several undergraduate and postgraduate modules focusing on pharmacology and toxicology.
His research focuses on Lumbriculus variegatus as a novel in vivo model organism for pharmacology education and research, particularly investigating the effects of substances like cannabinoids, nicotine, and ethanol. He co-founded the Swansea Worm Integrative Research Laboratory (SWIRL) and has secured grants totaling over £18,000 for projects such as the MIDBIT teaching toolkit and CBD impact studies.
Awarded Fellowships include the Senior Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (2022) and election as a Fellow of the British Pharmacological Society (2022), making him the youngest Fellow since its inception in 1931. He actively contributes to professional societies, including roles as Chair of the British Pharmacological Society's Early Career Pharmacologists Advisory Group and Education Policy Advisory Group member of the Royal Society of Biology.
Teaching responsibilities include modules like Pharmacology: Dynamics and Kinetics and Introduction to Toxicology. Public engagement activities include talks on drug toxicity and cannabis science for community groups like u3a and Merthyr Science Festival.
