Dr Afsana Faheem is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychology at the University of Birmingham, Dubai campus, joining in 2023. Her academic work spans research, teaching, and advocacy in clinical psychology with a strong emphasis on cultural competency and mental health equity.

Her research focuses on inequalities in mental healthcare, particularly the effectiveness of evidence-based psychological interventions in ethnically diverse populations and the cultural competence of therapists. She has contributed to national initiatives, including the REFUEL-MS and ROSHNI-2 clinical trials, and developed interventions for BAME communities. Her work integrates community engagement, digital tools, and pedagogical innovation in clinical training.
Dr Faheem has been recognized for her excellence in teaching and mentorship, including awards in 2021 and 2022, and the 'Recognising Excellence Award' for co-leading the BAME Mentor Scheme at the University of Bath. She co-hosted the 'What About Us?' podcast, which has over 10,000 subscribers and is used in clinical training programmes.
