Adriane Pereira

Adriane Pereira, PhD, is a full-time faculty member in the Center for Art Education at MICA, leading the Master of Arts graduate program. She holds a BA in Art History from Boston University, an MS in Art Education from Florida International University, and a PhD in Art Education from Florida State University. Her work focuses on learner-directed art education, critical thinking in art-making, and the intersection of pedagogy and artistic practice.

Her research examines how adolescents engage in artistic processes and self-directed learning. She has developed rigorous arts programs in Title I schools and explored the impact of reflective practice on teaching efficacy. Her artistic practice includes photographic portraits that document student experiences, particularly in her series capturing the process of becoming an art teacher.

Pereira’s National Board Certification underscores her commitment to reflective teaching practices. She mentors graduate students and presents her work at national conferences, bridging theory and practice in art education. She maintains an active artistic studio, blending her dual roles as educator and artist.
