Nan Park Sohn is a faculty member at the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA), where she teaches in the Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) and low-residency Master of Arts in Art Education (MAAE) programs. She mentors students in practicum experiences and qualitative classroom research, respectively.
- 2014 MICA Trustee Fellowship for Excellence in Teaching
- 2016 NAEA Art Educator of the Year Award for Maryland
Her research focuses on integrating contemplative artmaking practices into higher education to cultivate mindfulness and explore artist-teacher identities. In the classroom, she emphasizes rituals, community-building, and transformative growth through safe dialog spaces. Her studio practice centers on capturing everyday moments using contemplative frameworks.
Prior to MICA, she taught K-12 art in upstate New York and Baltimore and served as Coordinator of Student Teaching (2012-2015) and Director of MICA's Young People's Studios (2005-2013).
