Adjoa Armah

Adjoa Armah is a Researcher at Central Saint Martins, University of the Arts London, and a Research Fellow and Editor at Afterall. She concurrently pursues a practice-led DPhil in Fine Art at the Ruskin School of Art, University of Oxford, focusing on archival methodology and narrative posture through her project 'Meeting Saman.'

Her educational background includes:

Armah's research critically examines the entanglement of art praxis, design thinking, and archival practices within frameworks of black ontology and West African epistemologies. She investigates spatial consciousness and political dimensions of historical mediation, particularly through Ghanaian photographic archives.

Her work pioneers alternative institution-building models grounded in Akan temporalities, challenging Western archival hegemony and developing decolonial methodologies for social and historical mediation.

Armah has taught across art, curating, design, and writing at Ruskin School of Art, Central Saint Martins, University of Westminster, Royal College of Art, and HEAD Geneva. She leads the Paul Mellon Centre-funded 'The Black Atlantic Museum' digital research project and 'Afterall Art School' platform, advancing global art education discourse.

As founder of Saman Archive—a gathering of photographic negatives across Ghana—she cultivates collaborative study spaces that reimagine archival practices through West African technologies of knowledge transmission and community engagement.
