Mark Lewis is a Professor of Research Fine Art at Central Saint Martins, University of the Arts London. His work explores themes of urban landscapes, cinema history, and digital art, with exhibitions at institutions like the Louvre, Venice Biennale, and Art Gallery of Ontario. He co-founded the research organization Afterall and received the Governor General’s Award for Excellence in Fine Art (2016) and Canada Council for the Arts Lifetime Achievement Award. Notable works include Invention (2015), imagining a world without moving images, and the Canada series (2017), examining national identity through film.
Research interests include the interplay between cinema and urban spaces, art historical traditions, and experimental film techniques. His films have been featured globally, including at the Toronto International Film Festival and Berlinale.
