Dr. Adam Varenhorst is an Associate Professor and Extension Specialist in the Department of Agronomy, Horticulture and Plant Science at South Dakota State University. He serves as Director of the South Dakota Integrated Pest Management Program (SDIPM) and leads the Field Crop Entomology Lab, focusing on applied research for insect pest management in corn, soybean, wheat, sunflower, alfalfa, and other agronomic crops.

His research areas include integrated pest management (IPM), insect ecology, insecticide resistance management, and conservation of beneficial insects. He investigates pest dynamics in field crops and develops extension resources for stakeholders.
Dr. Varenhorst has received multiple accolades from the National Association of County Agricultural Agents, including awards for communication, extension publications, and team-based newsletters. He also mentors graduate students and collaborates across states on pest management strategies.
