Abhaya Rajani is a Visiting Lecturer and APR Programme Co-ordinator in the Department of Fine Art at Kingston School of Art, Kingston University. As a dalit queer feminist educator based in London, she develops alternative anti-caste feminist pedagogy through archiving ancestral knowledge and transdisciplinary art practices.
Her educational background includes:
- MA Print from the Royal College of Art, London
- B. Arch. from Kamla Raheja Vidyanidhi Institute for Architecture, Mumbai
Rajani's research synthesizes architecture training with contemporary art forms, producing installations, films, durational performances, and spatial research that interrogate caste, gender, and queer identity. Her work emphasizes community participation and intergenerational knowledge transmission, often through collaborative workshops and performative writing.
Her notable achievements include:
- Stanley Picker Fellowship
- British Art Council Funding for 'Touching on Caste' collaboration with Bloc Projects, Sheffield
Rajani currently directs the APR Programme at Kingston while leading externally funded projects. Her collaborative approach extends to co-founding the Godhadi collective (with her mother and late grandmothers) and Rakhan Productions with visual anthropologist Sam McNeil, reflecting her commitment to intergenerational and community-based knowledge production.
Though she exhibits internationally, her academic role focuses on pedagogical innovation within Fine Art, leveraging spatial research methodologies to advance anti-caste feminist frameworks in art education.
