معرفی
Abdurrahman Onaran is an Associate Professor at Akdeniz University's Kumluca Vocational School in the Department of Plant and Animal Production. With a specialization in plant protection, phytopathology, and mycology, Dr. Onaran has established himself as a prominent researcher in agricultural sciences, particularly in the field of natural antifungal compounds derived from plants. His work bridges chemistry, plant pathology, and sustainable agriculture practices.
Education:
- 2005-2010: Doctorate in Plant Protection, Tokat Gaziosmanpaşa University, Graduate School of Natural and Applied Sciences, Turkey
- 2003-2005: Postgraduate in Plant Protection, Tokat Gaziosmanpaşa University, Graduate School of Natural and Applied Sciences, Turkey
- 1998-2002: Undergraduate in Plant Protection, Tokat Gaziosmanpaşa University, Faculty of Agriculture, Turkey
Dr. Onaran's research primarily focuses on the antifungal properties of plant extracts and natural compounds for biological control of plant diseases. His work spans phytopathology, mycology, and agricultural chemistry, with particular emphasis on essential oils, plant secondary metabolites, and their applications against fungal pathogens affecting crops. He investigates the chemical composition of various plant species and their potential as natural pesticides, contributing to sustainable agricultural practices that reduce reliance on synthetic chemicals.
His publication record shows a consistent focus on identifying and characterizing natural antifungal compounds from diverse plant sources. Recent work has expanded into biotechnological approaches for crop improvement, particularly with blueberries. His research methodology often combines experimental work with computational approaches like molecular docking to understand mechanisms of action at the molecular level.
Dr. Onaran serves as the executive for an ongoing TUBITAK-funded project (2024-2026) focused on developing drought and salinity tolerant blueberry varieties using biotechnological methods. He has also contributed to two book chapters on biological control methods against plant pathogens.
