Abdullah Aydogan serves as an Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Department of Political Science at Columbia University, having previously held a Lecturer position in the same department. His academic career includes research roles at Rice University's Baker Institute (2015-2019), Princeton University (2020-2021), and a visiting fellowship at Germany's GIGA Institute (Summer 2019).
He earned his Ph.D. and M.A. in political science from the University of Houston and a B.S. in mathematics from Bogazici University in Istanbul, Turkey.
Specializing in political methodology, Aydogan investigates political parties, parliaments, and democratization processes with regional expertise in the Middle East—particularly Turkey. His interdisciplinary approach combines quantitative text analysis of social media with electoral data to examine ideological cleavages, competitive authoritarianism, and institutional design impacts on voting behavior. This methodological rigor extends to analyzing housing policy effects on electoral outcomes and military-civilian power dynamics.
His publication record demonstrates consistent focus on Middle Eastern political systems, with recurring themes of electoral integrity, party representation, and urban development influences on voting patterns. Recent work in journals like Party Politics and Electoral Studies reveals sophisticated analysis of Turkish politics through both traditional academic frameworks and innovative social media text mining.
Aydogan actively bridges academic and public discourse through contributions to the Washington Post's Monkey Cage, Sada Journal, and Houston Chronicle, translating complex political methodology for broader audiences while maintaining scholarly rigor in outlets like Political Science Quarterly and Parliamentary Affairs.
