Abay Mulatu is an Associate Professor of Economics at Coventry University's Faculty of Business & Law and a research associate at the Centre for Financial and Corporate Integrity (CFCI). His expertise spans environmental economics, international trade, and development economics. Before joining Coventry in 2016, he held positions at the London School of Economics, University of Cambridge, and others. His research focuses on the intersection of trade/foreign direct investment (FDI) with environmental policies, development economics, and international competitiveness. He completed a Leverhulme Research Fellowship on 'Environmental Regulation and International Competitiveness.'
Abay holds a Doctorate in Economics from VU University Amsterdam, a Postgraduate Diploma from the Tinbergen Institute, and a Cum Laude degree from Wageningen University. He is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, specializing in teaching econometrics, microeconomics, and environmental economics.
His recent work includes analyzing ESG factors in cross-border M&A deals and metaverse hype among executives. He has contributed to UN Sustainable Development Goals through research on equitable access to HIV prevention and environmental policy stringency metrics.
