Aaron A. Danis is an Adjunct Professor at The Institute of World Politics (IWP), specializing in terrorism, intelligence, and military strategy. He holds a Bachelor’s in Military Studies and a Master’s in Security Policy Studies. Previously, he served as a U.S. Army intelligence officer and held senior roles in the Naval Criminal Investigative Service, U.S. Coast Guard Intelligence, Treasury Department, and National Counterterrorism Center. He retired from the U.S. government after serving as the ODNI faculty chair at the National Intelligence University.
His research focuses on counterterrorism tactics, asymmetric warfare, intelligence-driven security policy, and the application of wargaming in strategic education. He teaches courses on domestic terrorism, strategic terrorism, counterterrorism, and violent non-state actors.
Prof. Danis frequently organizes and moderates academic wargaming simulations, including the Littoral Commander-Baltic exercise and IWP’s Capstone Crisis Simulation. His scholarly output includes critical reviews of intelligence literature, emphasizing practical applications in national security.
