ATİLA KUMBASAROĞLU

Assoc. Prof. ATİLA KUMBASAROĞLU is affiliated with the Faculty of Engineering and Architecture at Erzincan Binali Yıldırım University, where he serves in the Department of Civil Engineering. He has been an Associate Professor since 2022 and previously held the position of Assistant Professor from 2015. He also holds leadership roles as Deputy Head of Department and member of the Faculty Management and Academic Boards.

• Undergraduate in Civil Engineering, Atatürk University, Faculty of Engineering (1993–1997)

His research interests include Structural Engineering, Earthquake Engineering, Concrete Structures, Corrosion in Reinforced Concrete, Repair and Strengthening Techniques, and Seismic Performance Assessment. He actively investigates the behavior of building materials under extreme conditions, including corrosion and high-temperature exposure.

The recent articles (2018–2025) reflect a consistent focus on reinforced concrete behavior under corrosion, seismic loading, and innovative materials such as perlite and polypropylene fibers. His work combines experimental testing with modeling to assess structural integrity, bond-slip mechanisms, flexural and torsional behavior, and seismic resilience. A growing trend includes the use of sustainable and alternative materials in structural systems.

He has supervised 9 Master’s theses and leads several research projects funded by higher education institutions and TUBITAK. He has authored or co-authored over 88 publications in WoS-indexed journals. Additionally, he has contributed to over 30 expert reports on seismic safety evaluations following major earthquakes in Turkey, demonstrating strong applied and societal impact.

Laboratory and Team: He is involved in structural mechanics and materials testing at the university’s laboratories, collaborating with researchers such as H. Yalçıner, A. İ. Turan, and A. Çelik. His team focuses on experimental and analytical investigations of structural performance under various degradation mechanisms.
