Dr. Mehrzad Mohabbi is an Associate Professor in the Civil Engineering Department at Bingöl University's Faculty of Engineering and Architecture. Born in Tabriz, Iran in 1980, he holds dual citizenship in Turkey and the Islamic Republic of Iran. His academic journey began with a Bachelor's degree from Islamic Azad University in Iran (2003), followed by a Master's from the same institution (2008), and culminated in a PhD from Atatürk University in Turkey (2013).
Dr. Mohabbi's educational background reflects a strong foundation in civil engineering with practical industry experience. Before pursuing his academic career, he worked in various construction companies in Iran (2003-2005) and served as a construction engineering consultant at Tabriz's Tractor Factory (2010). Since 2014, he has been teaching and conducting research at Bingöl University.
His research focuses on geopolymer composites, concrete technology, and structural engineering, with particular expertise in pumice-based and perlite-based geopolymer cements, reactive powder concrete, and earthquake-resistant structural systems. Dr. Mohabbi has published extensively with 28 peer-reviewed journal articles and 21 symposium papers, demonstrating consistent research productivity since completing his PhD.
Analysis of his recent publications reveals a strong emphasis on alternative cementitious materials, particularly geopolymer composites, and their performance under various conditions including elevated temperatures and sulfate exposure. His work bridges fundamental material science with practical engineering applications, showing particular interest in sustainable construction materials and methods.

Dr. Mohabbi has supervised multiple research projects, including eight scientific research projects (BAP) at both Atatürk University and Bingöl University. His projects investigate geopolymer cement properties, concrete strengthening techniques, and seismic performance analysis. He teaches a wide range of civil engineering courses from foundational structural analysis to advanced topics in concrete technology and earthquake engineering.
As a multilingual researcher (fluent in Azerbaijani Turkish, Farsi, Turkish, and English, with working knowledge of German and Arabic), Dr. Mohabbi bridges academic communities across different regions, contributing to international collaboration in civil engineering research.
