Prof. A.C.G. Egberts is a Professor at Utrecht University, jointly affiliated with the Faculty of Science (Department of Pharmacoepidemiology and Clinical Pharmacology) and the Medical Faculty (Clinical Pharmacy). Since 2018, he serves as Director of Doctoral Education at the Graduate School of Life Sciences. Previously, he was Chief Pharmacist at University Medical Center Utrecht (2006-2017) and board member of its Laboratories and Pharmacy division.
Education: PharmD (University of Groningen, 1990), MSc in Clinical Epidemiology (Netherlands Institute of Health Sciences), PhD in Pharmacoepidemiology (Utrecht University, 1997).
Research Focus: His work bridges drug safety and clinical practice through three pillars: 1) Pharmacoepidemiology of therapeutic drugs, 2) Innovation in medication prescribing/monitoring systems, and 3) Environmental sustainability in pharmacy ('Green Pharmacy'). Core expertise includes adverse drug reaction mitigation and optimizing pharmacotherapy workflows.
Awards:
- Huizinga Penning (2006) for clinical pharmacy research
- Senior Jan Glerum Award (2016) for excellence in hospital pharmacist training
Academic Leadership: Mentored >70 PhD students to completion. Leads doctoral education strategy across life sciences disciplines and teaches in Pharmacy/Epidemiology master's programs. Editorial board member of Drug Safety and advisor to national pharmacotherapy committees.
Affiliations: Active in Netherlands Expertcenter for Pharmacotherapy in Older People (EPHOR), CCMO, and Dutch Hospital Pharmacists Association.
