Øystein Stene is a Lecturer at the Theatre Academy (Oslo National Academy of the Arts) since 2005. He is a multidisciplinary academic and artist, combining roles as a writer, playwright, and director with research and teaching in acting and dramaturgy.

His research focuses on the intersection of acting theory, dramaturgy, and existential/social themes, particularly guilt, shame, life, and death. He curates the Oslo International Acting Festival and co-hosts the Actors' Podcast, exploring practical and theoretical aspects of performance.
Key publications include the book The Art of Acting (2015), which defines acting as an academic field and examines its history and methods. His recent work spans documentaries, podcasts, and chapters on topics like voice journeys, psychodrama, and gestural theater.
