Alfred G. Cuzán , a Professor at the Reubin O'D. Askew Department of Government within the University of West Florida 's College of Arts, Social Sciences and Humanities , has dedicated his 40-year career to American and comparative politics , with a focus on fiscal policy in elections and Latin American politics . Born in Havana, Cuba, his academic journey began after witnessing Fidel Castro's rise to power in 1959, leading him to immigrate to Miami in 1961. He earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Miami and master's and doctorate degrees from Indiana University . Research Interests : Election forecasting models (e.g., Fiscal Model, PollyVote), political theory, democratization in Latin America, and fiscal policy's impact on voter behavior. Scientific Awards : Two Fulbright Scholar Grants (2015, 1983) Five National Endowment for the Humanities Fellowships (2004, 1996, 1992, 1989, 1988) Reuben Askew Fellowship and Henry Salvatori Fellowship Advising & Grants : Co-developed the PollyVote with Armstrong, Graefe, and Jones. Chaired the Department of Government at UWF from 1992 to 2012.
