About
Dr. Toby C.P. Solomon is a postdoctoral researcher at Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich (LMU), supported by a DFG Fellowship and an Alexander von Humboldt Foundation grant. He holds a PhD in philosophy from the Australian National University (2021), alongside a B.A. (Hons) in philosophy and a B.Sc. in advanced mathematics and physics from the University of Sydney.
His research focuses on formal philosophy, particularly applying decision theory to philosophical problems like free will and rational agency. He explores how practical rationality frameworks (e.g., mathematical decision theory) can resolve intractable debates. Current projects include modeling option-uncertainty in decision theory and defending Libertarian Decision Theory, which posits rational agents must presuppose choice freedom.
Recent work addresses dynamic decision dilemmas for Causal Decision Theory, semantic paradoxes, and self-referential challenges in decision-making. His publications critically engage with foundational issues in decision theory and free will.
