Timothy Richard Gaylard is Professor of Music at Washington and Lee University, where he joined the faculty in 1984. He served as Department Head from 2000-2008 and Interim Chair in 2012-13. A musicologist and concert pianist, Gaylard performs regularly as both soloist and accompanist. His research focuses on English piano music, the Prague Spring Festival, and Liszt's piano works. He has published liner notes for recordings by artists including Luciano Pavarotti and Kiri Te Kanawa.
As Director of the Washington and Lee Concert Guild since 1989, he curates classical performances by renowned artists. His teaching spans classical music history, American music, film music analysis, and applied piano. He advises senior music majors in performance and history.
