Ted Olson

Ted Olson serves as Professor in the Department of Appalachian Studies within East Tennessee State University's School of Humanities and Social Sciences. His academic home is anchored in Nicks Hall, Room 214, where he contributes to multiple degree programs including the Master's in Appalachian Studies and specialized graduate certificates.

His research spans the vibrant cultural landscape of Appalachia with particular focus on traditional music forms (Bluegrass, Old-Time, Roots), cultural heritage interpretation, and transatlantic connections to Scottish and Irish traditions. This work is deeply integrated with ETSU's unique institutional resources.

Professor Olson's academic activities are supported by ETSU's robust Appalachian research infrastructure, including the Center for Appalachian Studies and Services, the Archives of Appalachia, and the B.
