Roy Andrade

Roy Andrade is Professor of Bluegrass, Old-Time, and Roots Music Studies and Director of Old-Time Music within the Department of Appalachian Studies at East Tennessee State University's School of Humanities and Social Sciences. His research centers on Appalachian musical heritage, specifically:

• Historical evolution of Bluegrass and Old-Time music traditions
• Ethnomusicological analysis of regional performance practices
• Preservation methodologies for Roots music within contemporary contexts
• Cultural significance of Appalachian folk genres in American music history

As Director of Old-Time Music, Professor Andrade oversees program development within ETSU's nationally recognized Bluegrass studies curriculum. He contributes to graduate education through the Master's in Appalachian Studies and Graduate Certificate in Heritage Interpretation, focusing on music-centered cultural preservation. His work interfaces with university resources including the Archives of Appalachia and B. Carroll Reece Museum for applied research and community engagement.
