Sukumar Ganapati

Dr. Sukumar Ganapati is a Professor at Florida International University (FIU) in the Department of Public Policy & Administration, affiliated with the Steven J. Green School of International & Public Affairs. He joined FIU in 2004 after earning his Ph.D. in Planning from the University of Southern California (USC). He has held leadership roles, including Director of the Ph.D. Program in Public Affairs (2013–2016) and currently chairs the American Society for Public Administration’s Section on Science and Technology in Government.

His research focuses on digital and local governance, with key themes in cybersecurity, agile government, emerging technology applications, open government, and local governance. He has authored over 30 peer-reviewed articles, 15 book chapters, and four research monographs, including notable publications in Administrative Theory & Praxis and Public Administration Review. His work has been recognized with awards such as the Chester Rapkin Award (2008) and Jorge E. Hardoy Memorial Prize (1999).

Dr. Ganapati has secured over $2 million in research funding, leading major projects like the NSF-supported “Advanced Cyber Infrastructure Training in Policy Informatics” ($1M) and “Cybersecurity Pathway for Public Organizations” ($600K). He also co-edited special journal issues on public policy and governance in the sharing economy, and chaired conferences such as the 2018 Southeastern Conference on Public Administration.

His teaching spans undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral levels, including courses on smart governance, policy analysis, and urban management. He was awarded the Public Administration Educator of the Year (2012) by the South Florida ASPA chapter.
