About
Melissa Cox is a Senior Lecturer in Music Theory at Emory University, Atlanta, with extensive experience in music pedagogy and choral conducting. She previously taught AP Music Theory for fifteen years at St. Gregory College Preparatory School in Tucson, Arizona, and earned a DMA in Conducting from the University of Arizona after completing her undergraduate and master’s degrees in Music and Musicology at Harvard University.
Her career spans multiple institutions, including choral positions at Smith College and the University of Arizona, and leadership roles as a past president of the Choral Directors of Arizona. She has also served as organist and choir director in churches across Massachusetts and Arizona.

Dr. Cox has contributed significantly to AP Music Theory education, acting as a Faculty Consultant, Test Development Committee member, and Materials Reviewer for the College Board. She has presented workshops nationally and collaborated with institutions like Arizona Opera and the Opera Guild of Southern Arizona.
