Matthew Mireles is Professor of Euphonium and Tuba and Chair of the Department of Music and Theatre Arts at St. Mary's University. An internationally recognized conductor and performer, he has conducted and performed with ensembles including the United States Army Field Band and San Antonio Symphony.
As a euphonium soloist, Mireles received the Gold Medal at the Leonard Falcone International Euphonium Competition. His solo album 'Prometheus' features previously unrecorded works for euphonium with various ensembles. He serves as Musical Director and Conductor of the San Antonio Brass Band, which won the North American Brass Band Association championship.
Mireles maintains an acclaimed euphonium and tuba studio whose students have won major competitions and earned prestigious graduate assistantships. He holds a Doctor of Musical Arts from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and has studied with prominent brass pedagogues including John Stevens and Demondrae Thurman.
