Martreece Watson is an Associate Professor in the Department of English at Gallaudet University, part of the School of Language, Education, and Culture. She holds a Ph.D. in Education from The Ohio State University, an M.A. in Curriculum and Instruction/Education Administration from Ashland University, and a B.S. in Special Education (Hearing Handicap) from Montevallo University.
Her research focuses on literacy practices of Black d/Deaf students, challenging deficit narratives in deaf education, and postsecondary opportunities for students with disabilities. She teaches courses in English language studies, African American literature, and interdisciplinary topics like Black Deaf Studies and Orature. Watson co-founded the Academic Learning Lab for Student Training, Achievement, and Readiness (ALLSTAR), a mentoring program supporting students of color, athletes, and STEM students.
