Justin Boyd

Justin Boyd is an Assistant Professor of Art in New Media and Sculpture at the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) and Chair of the Sculpture and Integrated Media Studio at the Southwest School of Art. His work merges sound, sculpture, and multimedia installations to explore themes of American wanderlust, nostalgia, and the intersection of natural and mechanical soundscapes.

Boyd’s research integrates field recording, sound sculpture, and analog audio techniques to create immersive installations. His projects often reflect on historical narratives, such as the American frontier, the Mississippi River, and modern urban environments, using sound as a metaphor for time and memory.

Boyd hosts a weekly radio show on KRTU 91.7 FM and has presented lectures at institutions including Vanderbilt University, EMPAC, and the Southwest School of Art. His work has been featured in venues such as Artpace, Blue Star Contemporary, and the San Antonio Museum of Art.
