Jacob M. Ward

Jacob M. Ward is an Adjunct Professor at The University of Toledo College of Law, where he teaches substantive patent law and patent practice. He is a registered patent attorney admitted to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, in the State of Michigan, and before the United States District Court of the Eastern District of Michigan. He is also a registered patent agent (non-resident) in Canada.

His educational background includes:

• Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry from the University of Dayton
• Juris Doctor, cum laude, from The University of Toledo College of Law
• Certificate of concentration in Intellectual Property Law from The University of Toledo

Ward previously worked as a materials chemist in the tire and rubber industry for several years before commencing his legal practice, giving him valuable technical expertise that complements his legal work. His research and professional interests focus on intellectual property law, particularly patent law across mechanical, chemical, and electrical arts, as well as trademark law and the intersection of science and technology with legal practice.

As the founding member of Ward Law Office LLC in Tiffin, Ohio, he maintains an active legal practice serving clients ranging from independent inventors to Fortune 500 companies. He is the founding author of the "Anticipate This!™ | Patent and Trademark Law Blog," which provides commentary on patent law, trademark law, and science & technology. Ward is actively involved with the Toledo Intellectual Property Law Association (TIPLA), where he served as president (2008-09) and currently serves as webmaster, having developed and maintained the association's website.
