Ian Horton

Dr. Ian Horton is a Senior Lecturer in Graphic Communication at London College of Communication, part of the University of the Arts London. His work bridges comics, graphic design, and art history, focusing on national identity, creative freedom, and applied comics. He co-founded the Applied Comics Network and co-edits the Journal of Graphic Novels and Comics.

Research interests include the intersection of comics with art history, graphic design, and public relations. His recent work explores violence representation in comics through edited volumes like Contexts of Violence in Comics and Representing Acts of Violence in Comics (Routledge, 2019). These publications analyze cultural narratives, ethical storytelling, and visual methodologies.

Horton has presented globally on topics such as self-published comics, graphic narratives in information design, and comic book archives. He collaborates with institutions like the Comics Research Hub to advance interdisciplinary scholarship in visual storytelling.
