Dr. Michael Connerty is a Lecturer in Visual Culture, Film, and Animation Studies at the Laoghaire Institute of Art, Design and Technology (Dublin), where he has taught since 2006. His roles include instructing Animation and Visual Communication Design programs, as well as delivering a cross-faculty module titled “Introduction to Comics: History and Theory.” He holds a PhD from Central Saint Martins (University of the Arts London), completed in 2017 under the supervision of Prof. Roger Sabin and Dr. Ian Horton.
His research focuses on early comics history, British comics, and Irish Studies, with additional interests in slapstick comedy and Hollywood animation. He has actively participated in international academic conferences across Europe and the US, presenting work related to British comics history. Connerty contributes to the Comics Research Hub at the University of the Arts London, furthering interdisciplinary dialogue in visual culture.
