Dr. Ian Hague is the Associate Dean of Research and Reader in Graphic Narrative at the London College of Communication, University of the Arts London (UAL). He holds a PhD from the University of Chichester (accredited by Southampton), an MA in Cultural Studies from the University of Leeds, and a BA in English from the University of Hull. His research focuses on sensory and material cultures within comics and graphic novels, emphasizing their interdisciplinary potential. He is the author of *Comics and the Senses* (2014) and co-editor of *Representing Multiculturalism in Comics* (2015) and volumes on *Violence in Comics* (2020).
Hague founded *Comics Forum* (2009), an annual conference, and co-founded UAL’s Comics Research Hub. He serves on editorial boards for *Journal of Graphic Novels and Comics* and *Studies in Comics*. His leadership roles include Design School Research Coordinator (2020–2024) and Associate Dean of Research (2024). He was awarded a Senior Fellowship of Advance HE in 2020 for contributions to education and research.
His research explores digital comics’ materiality, multisensory engagement, and cultural representation. Current projects include a Collaborative Doctoral Partnership with the British Library on digital comics’ archival practices. He actively supervises PhD students and examines doctoral work across universities. His work bridges academic research with cultural institutions, fostering mentorship and interdisciplinary collaboration.
