Helen Mort

Helen Mort is a Professor in the Department of English and Manchester Writing School at Manchester Metropolitan University. She holds a PhD in English Literature from the University of Sheffield and a BA in Social and Political Sciences from Cambridge University. Her academic roles include external examiner positions at the University of Huddersfield and St Andrews University.

Mort's research explores place writing, landscape narratives, and the intersection of neuroscience with contemporary poetry. Her work examines how physical environments and bodily experiences shape literary expression, particularly in post-industrial settings and natural landscapes like the Peak District and Greenland.
