Hannah R. Garry serves as Clinical Professor of Law and Director of the International Human Rights Clinic at USC Gould School of Law, while also leading the Justice and Accountability Initiative. With over 25 years of international experience across 25+ countries, she specializes in human rights advocacy and legal scholarship.
Her educational background includes a Juris Doctor from UC Berkeley Law (managing editor of Berkeley Journal of International Law), a Master's in International Affairs from Columbia University with high honors, and a Bachelor of Arts in History and Political Science summa cum laude from Wheaton College. She also holds a Graduate Certificate in Forced Migration Studies with distinction from Oxford University as a Rotary Ambassadorial Scholar.

Professor Garry's scholarship reveals consistent focus on enforcement gaps in international law, particularly regarding refugee protections and accountability for atrocity crimes. Her recent work examines innovative enforcement mechanisms for international refugee law through comparative analysis of quasi-judicial bodies, international courts, and treaty compliance systems.

As Director of the International Human Rights Clinic, Garry has trained over 100 students on global justice cases involving atrocity accountability, refugee rights, fair trials, and gender justice. She regularly serves as amicus curiae before international tribunals including the ICC and UN Human Rights Committee.
Professor Garry leads USC's International Human Rights Clinic, which partners with the Clooney Foundation's TrialWatch Initiative and Human Rights Watch. Her clinic work connects students with the Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia, International Criminal Court, and UN mechanisms to document rights violations and develop legal strategies for accountability.
