About
Gheorghe Chistol is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemical and Systems Biology at Stanford University School of Medicine. He is also a member of Bio-X and the Stanford Cancer Institute. His work bridges biology, chemistry, and physics through single-molecule imaging techniques.
- Postdoctoral Fellowship, Jane Coffin Childs Memorial Fund (2014-2017)
- NSF CAREER Award (2022)
- Interdisciplinary Initiatives Program Seed Grant (2021-2023)
Research focuses on eukaryotic DNA replication under stress conditions, helicase dynamics, and ubiquitin-mediated genome maintenance. His lab develops innovative single-molecule platforms using Xenopus egg extracts. Key findings include the role of DONSON in bidirectional replication initiation and mechanisms of DNA-protein crosslink repair. Publications in Cell, Science, and Nature highlight his contributions to replication stress and genome stability. The lab trains graduate students and postdocs while collaborating with structural biologists and clinicians.
