Evan Rothstein is Deputy Head of Strings and Chamber Music Coach at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. He holds a Doctor of Music (DM) from Indiana University, Master of Music (MMus) from Yale, and graduate degrees in musicology (DEA, PEA) from the University of Paris 8. His roles include teaching violin and chamber music across institutions in France since 1992, and leading the Summer String Academy at Indiana University (1997–2019). He has served as Chairman of the European Chamber Music Teachers’ Association (2009–2016) and contributed to Ensemble Magazine with a bimonthly teaching column.
Research interests span violin pedagogy, the music of Ives and Georges Aperghis, minimalism, Broadway musicals, and music-theatre experimentation. He has collaborated with institutions like the Théâtre de Châtelet, Cité de la musique, and Olive Music, producing program notes, interviews, and pre-concert lectures.
Awarded France’s highest artistic teaching distinction (PEA), Rothstein has conducted residencies globally, led masterclasses, and served on chamber music competition juries across Europe.
