Dixie Shaw-Tillmon

Dixie Shaw-Tillmon is a Professor of Instruction and Distinguished Teaching Professor in the The Writing Program at the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA), part of the University College. She holds a B.A. in English Literature from the University of Houston (1995) and an M.A. in English Literature with a specialization in Renaissance studies from Sam Houston State University (1997). Her master’s thesis, “Love and Nature in the Hesperides: Robert Herrick’s secular poetry,” reflects her scholarly focus on Renaissance literature.

Before joining UTSA in 2005, she taught writing at Sam Houston State University and Odessa College, and served as Public Relations Director for a West Texas school district. Her professional expertise spans writing instruction, curriculum development, and educational leadership, with a commitment to fostering student success in academic writing.

Awarded the title of Distinguished Teaching Professor, her contributions to pedagogy and student engagement are highlighted through her long-term affiliation with UTSA’s Writing Program.
