Dieter Lindskog, MD, is an Associate Professor of Orthopaedics and Rehabilitation at Yale School of Medicine and Section Chief of Musculoskeletal Oncology. He serves as Disease Aligned Research Team Leader for the Sarcoma Program at Yale Cancer Center and directs the Smilow Cancer Hospital Sarcoma Tumor Board. Dr. Lindskog's clinical practice is directed nearly full-time at the treatment of patients with orthopaedic oncologic disease including sarcomas and metastatic disease to bone, a rare specialty in the medical field.
Dr. Lindskog's research focuses on clinical study of patients with malignant and benign bone and soft tissue tumors. His investigations include evaluating outcomes for different reconstructive techniques after sarcoma resections and minimally invasive techniques for treating benign bone lesions. Recent work has centered on periacetabular osteolytic metastases and the AORIF (Ablation-Osteoplasty-Reinforcement-Internal Fixation) procedure, which has shown promise for pain management and functional preservation.
His publication record demonstrates consistent scholarly output in high-impact journals including Cancers, Radiology, and Journal of Clinical Medicine, with research spanning surgical techniques, comparative outcomes, and natural history studies of musculoskeletal tumors. The publication trends show increasing focus on metastatic bone disease management and minimally invasive approaches to complex oncologic problems.
Dr. Lindskog maintains active leadership roles in professional organizations:
- National Comprehensive Cancer Network – Bone Cancer Panel Member (2015-Present)
- AAOS Musculoskeletal Tumor & Metabolic Disease Program Committee (2017-Present)
- Musculoskeletal Tumor Society Fellowship Committee member (2016-Present)
- YNHH Orthopedic Residency Associate Program Director (2015-Present)
As an educator, Dr. Lindskog contributes to medical student education through orthopaedic surgery clerkships and serves as Associate Program Director for the orthopaedic residency program. His clinical expertise in bone and soft tissue sarcoma represents a specialized area within orthopaedics that deals with 'life and death issues,' as he describes it, distinguishing it from much of general orthopaedic practice.
