Dr Chris Groves is a Senior Lecturer in Sociology at Swansea University's Department of Criminology, Sociology and Social Policy. He holds a joint Editor-in-Chief role at Futures (Elsevier) and has authored over 40 publications and two books. His research focuses on societal responses to uncertainty, technological innovation, and energy transitions, with a strong emphasis on social and environmental justice in Wales.
Teaching interests include environmental risk, science and technology studies, qualitative methods, and energy sociology. He has collaborated on participatory approaches to empower communities in energy transition planning. Recent research explores decarbonization pathways, energy vulnerability narratives, and the ethics of care in energy systems.
Prior roles include a Research Fellow position at Cardiff University (2016–2024). His work spans interdisciplinary fields such as STS, futures studies, and environmental sociology, addressing challenges like climate change communication, nanotechnology regulation, and public engagement in energy policy.
