Dr. Chiara Poletti is a Lecturer in Criminology at Swansea University's School of Social Sciences, within the Department of Criminology, Sociology and Social Policy. She holds a PhD in Sociology from Cardiff University and specializes in digital sociology, surveillance, and critical data studies. Her research focuses on technology-society interactions, governance of digital technologies, and participatory methodologies for exploring socio-technical controversies.
Dr. Poletti collaborates internationally, including with the ESRC-funded ORA consortium project on AI governance and the Data Justice Lab at Cardiff University. Her network spans Europe and North America. She teaches modules such as Victims and Victimology (ASC106), Dissertation (ASC324), Citizenship and Surveillance (PPS221), and Foundations in Social Science Research (SPC109).
Available for postgraduate supervision, her research interests include citizenship, surveillance technologies, and innovative engagement methods. She is based at the Keir Hardie Building on Singleton Campus.
