Dr Chloe Steadman is a Senior Lecturer in Marketing at Manchester Metropolitan University (MMU), with expertise in consumer culture, place management, and qualitative research methodologies. She holds a PhD in Consumer Research from the University of Manchester (2017) and is a Research Associate at the Institute of Place Management (IPM). Her research focuses on intersections between consumer behavior, the body, time, and place, with notable contributions to studies of atmospheres in consumption spaces. She currently leads the national High Streets Task Force resource library, a £8.6M government-funded initiative to revitalize UK high streets.
Teaching responsibilities include unit leadership for Level 5 Consumption Behaviour and Level 7 Place Research, alongside supervising UG/PG/PhD dissertations. As Programme Leader for Place Management and Leadership postgraduate courses, she emphasizes applied research and industry engagement. She serves on editorial boards for the Journal of Marketing Management and Journal of Place Management and Development, and holds fellowships from the Higher Education Academy and Academy of Marketing.
Key research projects include atmospheric studies of Blackpool North Pier, craft beer festivals, and football consumption. Her work explores themes such as affective atmospheres, territorial exclusion, and the role of memory in consumption. Awards include the 2016 Academy of Marketing Best Paper Award and the President’s Doctoral Scholar Award.
