Bryan Seal

Bryan Seal serves as an Associate Professor in the Safety Sciences and Environmental Engineering Department within the John J. and Char Kopchick College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics at Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP). He joined the faculty in fall 2018 after nearly three decades of professional experience as an applied industrial hygienist and safety professional across diverse sectors including the US Navy, OSHA, and private consulting.

His educational background includes a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Resource Management and Master of Science in Environmental Health from Penn State University, complemented by a PhD in Administration and Leadership Studies from IUP. His doctoral dissertation, titled "Forces Influencing Small-Medium Sized Employer Decisions on Worker Protection," established his focus on occupational safety policy implementation.

Professor Seal's expertise centers on industrial hygiene methodologies, with specialized knowledge in qualitative and quantitative exposure assessment strategies and practical application of the hierarchy of controls for workplace hazard mitigation. His research bridges theoretical safety science with real-world industrial challenges across multiple high-risk sectors.

He maintains active leadership roles in professional organizations including Chair of the Exposure Control Banding Committee for the National American Industrial Hygiene Association, and positions within the American Industrial Hygiene Association-Central PA Chapter and Central PA Safety Association.
