Barbara Felsenstein

Barbara Felsenstein serves as Professor of Singing and Popular Music Genres at Rostock University of Music and Drama since winter semester 2013/14, affiliated with the Department of Popular and World Music.

Her academic foundation includes vocal studies in jazz and popular music with dramatic focus at Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya (Barcelona) and Hanover University of Music, Drama and Media.

Professor Felsenstein's artistic practice centers on Popular Music and Jazz performance, extending to Musical Theatre and Chanson through active engagement in band projects (modern jazz to swing) and theatrical productions. Her work integrates vocal technique with dramatic expression across genres, reflecting the department's focus on contemporary performance practices.

Her professional trajectory spans major German theaters including Mecklenburg State Theatre, Munich Chamber Opera, Oberhausen Theatre (Woyzeck, Never too loud - The Velvet Underground), and Berlin venues like Komödie on Kurfürstendamm and cabaret theater Die Stachelschweine.
