ŞEFİKA MERTKAN

Prof. Dr. Şefika Mertkan is a faculty member at the Department of Educational Sciences within the Faculty of Education at Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU). Her academic journey includes a PhD in Education from the University of Nottingham (2010), an MS in Philosophy from the University of Cambridge (2000-2002), and a BA in English Language and Literature from EMU (1994-1998).

Her research interests focus on educational administration, school leadership dynamics, multicultural education challenges, crisis management in educational institutions (e.g., pandemic responses), and academic publishing policies. She has supervised numerous master’s and doctoral theses addressing topics such as interethnic student needs in schools, conflicts between teachers and principals, and democratic culture in educational leadership.

Prof. Mertkan’s work emphasizes practical solutions for educational challenges, particularly in conflict zones and multicultural settings. She has advised over 15 theses since 2016, contributing to policy recommendations for school development and leadership effectiveness.
