Full Professor Đani Benčić is a faculty member in the Department of Pomology at the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Zagreb, specializing in horticultural sciences with emphasis on Mediterranean and subtropical fruit cultivation systems.
His research focuses on:
- Olive growing and olive oil production technology
- Genetic identification of domesticated olive varieties
- Soil-heavy metal dynamics in vineyard ecosystems
- Conservation of agricultural genetic resources
- Digital morphological characterization using WinFOLIA™ and WinSEEDLE™ systems
Professor Benčić has coordinated multiple research projects funded by the Ministry of Science (MZOS), European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development, and University of Zagreb, demonstrating expertise in both fundamental soil science and applied agricultural technologies for Mediterranean crops. His work bridges traditional pomology with modern digital phenotyping techniques.
He teaches specialized courses including Ecological Olive Growing, Olive and Olive Oil, Subtropical Fruit Growing, and Mediterranean Fruit Growing, along with practical field and laboratory exercises in viticulture and pomology.
