Özkan Ateş is a Professor of Neurosurgery at İnönü University Faculty of Medicine. He specializes in spinal surgery, with a focus on degenerative spine diseases, minimally invasive techniques, and spinal deformities. He held visiting scholar positions at the University of Wisconsin Department of Neurosurgery (USA) in 2007 and was promoted to Professor in 2014. His clinical interests include spinal trauma, tumors, infections, and neuro-oncological interventions.
Research interests encompass neuroprotection in traumatic brain injury, dynamic stabilization systems for spinal pathologies, and advanced surgical education using 3D modeling and virtual reality. He has published extensively on spinal instrumentation, intervertebral disc regeneration, and the effects of pharmacological agents on spinal tissue.
Recent work highlights innovations in surgical techniques and outcomes analysis, including vertebroplasty/kyphoplasty efficacy, melatonin’s neuroprotective role, and long-term implant performance in dynamic stabilization systems. He is an active member of the Turkish Neurosurgical Society and Spinal and Peripheral Nerve Surgery Group.
