Åsa Petersén is a Professor at Lund University, affiliated with the Department of Translational Neuroendocrinology and the MultiPark multidisciplinary research program on Parkinson's disease. She serves as a Research Team Manager and Principal Investigator, focusing on neurodegenerative and neuropsychiatric aspects of Huntington's Disease (HD).
Her research investigates hypothalamic pathology in HD, demonstrating early metabolic and psychiatric disturbances through MRI, postmortem analyses, and mouse models. Current work aims to identify molecular pathways for disease-modifying therapies by studying hypothalamic huntingtin's role in non-motor symptoms.
- 2025: TDP-43 hypothalamic neuropathology in mice
- 2024: Huntingtin CAG repeats in Lynch syndrome
- 2023: Mutant huntingtin in oxytocin neurons
- 2023: Hypothalamic-striatal neuropathology
- 2023: Swedish HD comorbidity registry study
She supervises PhD students, participates in conference organization, and leads projects funded by Hjärnfonden and the Swedish Research Council. Her work aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals in neuroscience and well-being.
